Broken parts of finished granite side tables using discarded pieces.

Pine plywood 2×2 sheet
Granite countertop shard found in a dumpster of a counter top fabricator. There are tons of pieces like this that they throw out monthly.
I probably should have taken more pictures, but this is after taking an outline of the shard, cutting the top piece with a scroll saw, hitting the bottm piece with a router set to the correct depth, laminating the two together, and sanding the edges.
Granite shard sunk in to the board, filled in the gaps with wood filler, and put on a few coats of Danish Oil.
I used an old iron metal stool for the base. I cut it into quarters and sunk it into the bottom of the table. I also put a few coats of poly on the top.
BONUS:

Second table that I built with the same concept. I had the good luck of finding a scrap with a finished edge on it. Since this picture I've painted the feet brown so it doesn't look like the table is wearing a pair of sneakers. Pine top and solid copper rods for the legs
