DIY Wooden Chest w/ faux leather upholstery

DIY Wooden Chest w/ faux leather upholstery and “hidden” adult feature. Tiny bit nsfw-ish

Final picture with the screwed inserts in

As it is the custom, a picture of the finished project first.
The Plan!

most of this plan was used, some parts in the finished project were different because I used thicker posts. (55mmx55mm instead of 45mmx45mm)
My dads router

without it this project would have been impossible. its impossible to get a good groove without it.
all the posts in one piece

the grooves

notably not so beautiful in the ends, but those parts were cut off anyway.
Cutting the posts

Here it was nessesary to have a circular saw. My Jigsaw screwed up all the cuts, none of them were even remotely angular.
Layout check

after all pieces are cut I layed the pieces out to see if everything was measured correctly. Here I realized that my first top piece was way to small.
putting pressure on the fresh glue

tension belts keep the chest together while the glue dries.
Main Corpus glued

notice the
The Top fits

Drawer drying

as with the main corpus, the drawer needed to be set under pressure to dry.
Staining the wood

Indoors, because it was to cold outside to let the stain dry correctly. The color was woodstain that is usable in the house, so no danger here.
preparing the top for the upholsterin

Double sided tape is used to secure the foam to the wood.
upholstering step 2

Foam is put on the double sided tape, then the faux leather is put over the foam but not glued to allow for some movement when sitting down.
upholstering done.

I used around 150 upholstery nails that I hammered in with a plastic hammer. not perfect, but as this was my first upholstery project I am okay with it.
usable for the first time

I had to park it in my bedroom while the drawer was getting stained.
Final picture in the play mode

All 6 eyebolts are screwed in to showcase the options, usually you would only need 2 of them each on the front and backside. They are screwed into screwed inserts to get a cleaner look when not in use.
The drawer..

Stocks 7 pieces of 12m rope, 2 pieces of 6m rope, a huge amount of carabiners, pulleys, anchor points, and other assortet toys. I also store the Eyebolt that are used for the drawers extra purpose here.
As you can see it is lockable, to prevent nosy friends from opening…
