This is my computer chair that I've had for many years. It's getting gross and the cushion is all flat so I've been on the lookout for a new one.
Found this for $7 at Goodwill. Score!
After using the new chair, I realized the old chair had MUCH better wheels. The new chair's wheels felt like they'd scuff up my floor pretty badly eventually, so I thought I'd just swap the seats. New cushion, mesh back, nice wheels – what could go wrong?
Of course, the bolt holes are in different places. I thought about swapping out the cylinders, but they are different sizes. Then it hit me!
Swap out the support boards!
I brought a heavy-duty staple remover home from work to help with this. It broke after one staple so I did the rest with a tiny jewelers screwdriver and a pair of vice grips. 3 hours and 5,000 staples later…
Attached the new cushion to the old support board with lots of staples and voila!
My perfect chair!
