I have to think small since I don't own a car. Backpack filled with 20lb of concrete and two 4' dowels
Made a mold to hold the dowels in place, spaced slightly from the walls. I used bent nails to hold them in place. Middle is a paper towel tube wrapped in packing tape.
Pouring. Never done this, next time I'm not going to do it over the cement. Going to have to clean that soon.
Note for my roommates
It worked. Dowels are a little crooked though.
Because I used wood the sides and bottom were super dusty. I tried sanding but quickly realized that wasn't going to work. Ended up spraying a some clear coat on it, worked great.
Fitting a paper lampshade.
Close up. I didn't get any pictures of the actual lighting assembly. I just took apart an old IKEA lamp and used the cord/socket combo. I pulled out the wires from the lamp socket and fed them though a hole I drilled in the back. It had a separate piece hat screwed onto the outside that clamped down the original lamp shade. I used 2 part epoxy to glue that over the hole, then screwed the socket in place.
Finished (for now). I angled the picture so the crooked dowels weren't as noticeable. Going to use some cross braces at the top to straighten them out. And I think I'm going to buy a thin fabric to replace the paper shade.
